The Dawn Chorus

The Dawn Chorus make intelligent pop-indie-folk. Lyrics you’ll take to heart, melodies you’ll want to hum to your milkman.

A six-piece (often seven-piece) musical collective from nowhere-in-particular, Hampshire, England. They formed as a four-piece band in 2005 and have been gradually recruiting volunteers to their alt/folk/country/pop mission ever since.

In 2008 they released their debut album, ‘The Big Adventure‘ to hugely favourable reviews. The record was placed at number 7 in Planet Sound’s albums of 2008, and the band toured the country throughout 2008 and 2009, including well received festival appearances at Bestival and Two Thousand Trees.

The band release their second album ‘The Carnival Leaves Town’ in February 2009, again via independent label Jelly Maid Music. The album will be preceded by the single ‘Carnivalesque‘ – which features friend of the band Frank Turner on guest vocals.

What people have to say about The Dawn Chorus:

“Beautifully melancholic songwriting” – Clash Music

“Utterly Gorgeous” – Planet Sound (ranked no.7 in albums of ’08 list)

“Perfect country-pop songwriting – they need to be huge” – Rock Sound

“A fine five piece from nowhere in particular, as honest and beautiful as the day is long” – Organ Art

“A blissed-out Wilco? Conor Oberst’s chirpy kid brother? A less lonely Loney, Dear? More importantly, they’ve their own unique hazy charm. Get on board – this won’t stop ’til Glasto’s main stage.” – Planet Sound (again)

“Each song is perfectly crafted and hook laden” – Repeat
